DuPont in India: Double-Digit Growth
New Delhi - With its roots dating to the company’s beginnings in 1802, DuPont India has been growing at an annual average rate of close to 25 percent for the last five years. In 2006, DuPont sales in India exceeded USD 360 million. The largest business platform in India is DuPont Agriculture & Nutrition, followed by DuPont Performance Materials, DuPont Coatings & Color Technologies, DuPont Safety & Protection and DuPont Electronic & Communication Technologies.
DuPont India markets a range of products in varied market segments including: agriculture, food and nutrition; health care; home and building construction; electronics; safety and protection; and transportation and infrastructure.
With country headquarters in the capital city of New Delhi, DuPont also has facilities in Savli, Madurai and Medchal. The Savli site in Baroda is a multi-business facility for DuPont Crop Protection, DuPont Engineering Polymers and DuPont Refinish. The Madurai site in Tamil Nadu houses the DuPont Filaments business and the Medchal site is managed by the Pioneer Hi-Bred business.
DuPont recently announced plans to invest more than USD 22 million to build the DuPont Knowledge Center on 15 acres of leased land in Hyderabad for basic discovery, application development and other high-end knowledge services for global and local markets. The Center is expected to be operational in early 2008 and will accommodate more than 300 scientists and other employees. A prime example of “putting science to work” and “going where the growth is,” it also will house the company’s first plant biotech research center outside of the U.S.
