Bobbie J. McLaren’s Tackles Bullying in First Children’s Book Set for Exhibit at the 2024 London Book Fair

One of the first major publishing events expected to take place this year is the London Book Fair. It’s an event that will not only assemble some of the largest publishers in the world but several other smaller companies in the space as well as numerous independent and self-published authors.

In fact, one can even find the books of humble authors such as Bobbie J. McLaren, whose writing has been mostly for dramas performed at her local church along with a few books she has published on the side.

One of the works that she’s arranged to exhibit at the London Book Fair 2024 is a children’s book titled The First Annual Duck Springs Whistling Contest.

Much of McLaren’s tends to focus on the simpler life of rural towns, and this children’s story is no different. It follows a little boy named Tyler James, who’s known throughout town for his cute whistling habit. Incidentally, their little town of Duck Springs is about to hold its first-ever whistling contest, and Tyler is all fired up to win its prize of a beautiful silver whistle.

Tragically, a local bully decides to play a cruel joke on Tyler that results in him losing his front tooth! Whether he still manages to win at the end, many visitors at this year’s London Book Fair can certainly find out. In any case, it’s a book that shares a lot of lessons, both about the problem of bullying as well as the pursuit of one’s dreams, no matter how small.
