There’s a New Kid on the Block! Bea’s Block, a Pre-school Animation from the Maker of Sesame Street

Bea’s Block Debuts on Max February 15, 2024

A kindness adventure is always around the corner on Bea’s Block, a brand-new comedic animated pre-school series from Sesame Workshop and Warner Bros. Discovery. Centering on compassionate and curious five-year-old Bea and her two best friends Ty and Lexi, the series features the trio modeling kindness through friendship and empathy. The vibrant characters are wooden blocks, which allow them to exhibit a unique physical humor as they zip, stack, and hop their way through their diverse and inclusive Blocktown neighborhood. Bea’s Block premieres on Max on February 15, 2024.

Bea’s Block was created with the educational approach and heart you’ve come to expect from the makers of Sesame Street,” said Kay Wilson Stallings, Sesame Workshop’s Executive Vice President, Chief Production and Creative Development Officer. “Bea and her friends always want to help, but it can take a little time for them to figure out the best way to do so. As they navigate friendships and the world around them, the series shows that kindness can be fun and humorous while giving kids the vocabulary to express their feelings and helping them develop insight into big emotions like excitement or sadness.”

Sesame Workshop recently announced a multi-year organization-wide commitment to the emotional well-being of young children and their families with resources and content that support celebrating joyful everyday moments and helping children learn the essential skills they need to understand and manage their feelings.

The lead character of Bea’s Block is Bea Mantilla, an emotionally intuitive and empathetic five-year-old Mexican-American girl who is figuring out what it takes to be a good friend. She can often be found in her backyard treehouse along with her two best friends, Ty and Lexi, brainstorming ways to help others. Across 22 episodes, each containing two complete 12-minute stories, the trio go on wacky kindness adventures around Blocktown. Whether they are creating a “Blocketball” skills camp to help a friend learn how to play, searching for a lost chameleon to return to its owner, or hosting a surprise table tennis tournament, the irresistible energy of Bea and her friends catapults viewers into stories that are fun and surprising. Along the way, the three explore emotions such as disappointment, nervousness, and excitement, all while learning how to be kind.

Every episode features a unique new song and a recurring musical ditty that kicks off each kindness adventure, weaving in the series’ main curricular theme. As the show models friendship skills such as taking turns, sharing, and playing fairly, children learn ways to communicate and be empowered to solve problems by working together as friends. Though the characters in this series come from different cultural backgrounds and have unique interests and personality traits—differences which could spark conflict—they are able to build caring friendships based on common interests and understanding and respecting one another’s needs.

Bea’s Block is animated by A Productions, a creative-led, internationally recognized animation production studio, with a strong track record of producing award-winning children’s content for broadcasters and SVoDs.

Bea’s Block is part of an expanding animation slate for Sesame Workshop, part of its ongoing content partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery. Last year, the partners launched Sesame Street Mecha Builders, a CGI-animated series that reimagines Elmo, Cookie Monster, and Abby Cadabby as robot heroes-in-training who use their STEM superpowers to solve larger-than-life problems. A festive family holiday special based on The Nutcracker and featuring Elmo, his puppy Tango, and their Sesame Street friends debuted in December.
