Applications and Database Enhancements Provide Toshiba with Improved Functionality for Future Growth.
As part of an effort to protect its existing software investment and support company growth, Toshiba America Business Solutions, Inc. (TABS) recently upgraded the Oracle(r) E-Business Suite and Oracle Database to help ensure accurate, timely payroll and even stronger data integrity for the management of internal processes.

As an independent operating company of Toshiba Corporation, TABS manages product planning, marketing, sales, service support and distribution of copiers, facsimiles, multifunction printing products, network controllers and toner products throughout the United States, Mexico, Latin America and the Caribbean. Completing an update of its Oracle Applications and Oracle Database investment illustrates the company’s confidence that Oracle will position TABS for continued growth and expansion in the future.

“We chose to upgrade the Oracle E-Business Suite and Oracle Database to help ensure continued efficiency among business processes including our very critical payroll functions,” said Randy Miller, vice president and CIO for TABS. “We knew that upgrading would provide us with additional functionality to help us operate more competitively and make better decisions. With more than 300 concurrent employees utilizing the system at any given time, reliability is important to us and we are thrilled with the results.”

As an outcome of the upgrade, TABS experienced increased efficiency with a 10 percent reduction in CPU usage during the November 2006 month-end. Oracle’s support throughout the process allowed TABS to seamlessly upgrade to Oracle Database 10g Release 2 and the Oracle E-Business Suite 11.5.10 without business interruptions. The Oracle software upgrade was completed on time and within the established budget.

“Oracle did a fantastic job supporting us throughout this upgrade,” continued Miller. “We’ve been able to eliminate several of the customizations we required in previous versions and now benefit from richer functionality and a highly reliable system. Also, the improved application interface is much more user-friendly, which promotes broader usage of this system throughout TABS.”
