Karen Kay named Site Leader; Mike Albano adds additional responsibilities

ANGUS, Sterlington, LA - April 02, 2007

Karen Kay has been named site leader for ANGUS Chemical Company (‘ANGUS’), a wholly-owned subsidiary of The Dow Chemical Company (‘Dow’), at the company’s flagship manufacturing plant in Sterlington, LA. In addition to her site leadership role, Kay also assumes the additional role of business manufacturing leader for ANGUS and Dow Biocides, a business unit of Dow. Kay replaces Billy Duncan who was named to a new role at Dow company headquarters in Midland, MI.

Kay has a rich connection to the ANGUS site. She began her career as a process engineer for ANGUS in Sterlington after receiving a degree in chemical engineering from the University of Alabama in 1985, and held a wide variety of positions and roles. In 2004, her global improvement role was expanded to include Dow Biocides’ business manufacturing sites, and in 2005 became responsible for Sterlington site engineering. She was appointed to her current role as site leader for Dow’s Allyn’s Point site in Connecticut in April 2006.

“We are excited to welcome Karen back to Sterlington as site leader for the ANGUS team,” said Mark Henning, ANGUS CEO, and general manager for Dow Biocides. “Karen is a seasoned leader in manufacturing and engineering and I know she will continue her focus on the smooth operation of the Sterlington site, maintaining best-in-class environmental health and safety performance and continued relationships with our local community.”

In a related move, Mike Albano, currently Sterlington site maintenance & construction leader, and asset reliability leader, adds the role of ANGUS and Dow Biocides global improvement leader. Mike joined Dow in 1989 as a mechanical engineer at Louisiana Operations. At this site he worked in a variety of manufacturing roles in several Plaquemine plants, including the Propylene Oxide/ Propylene Glycol and Ethylene Oxide units. He moved to Texas Operations in 1998 where he served as maintenance leader and small projects leader for Epoxy Products and Intermediates plants. He served as site maintenance work process resource leader and maintenance work process team chairman for the Union Carbide integration. He assumed his current role in 2003.

“Mike has already shown his abilities as a key leader for the Sterlington site,” said Henning. “We looking forward to seeing his expertise reflected in his additional responsibilities at the site.”

The Sterlington site in Ouachita Parish, LA, began operating in the 1930s, and houses several production units producing nitroparaffins and their derivatives. The site is ISO 9002 certified, a comprehensive standard covering all aspects of quality systems from production to product delivery and has on-going waste minimization and recycling programs. Sterlington Operations employs more than 200 full-time and contract workers, and contributes more than $50,000 annually to the United Way and other community outreach programs. The site underwent a multi-million dollar investment project in 2006 including capacity expansion for several products including 2-NP and AMP™ dispersant and neutralizing amine.
