Frankfurter Buchmesse Exhibits Included Claudette McLennon’s In-Depth Novel of One Woman’s Life Surviving Abuse and Living Through the Turn of the Century

Many publishers once again gathered at this year’s Frankfurt Book Fair. With them, visitors were able to explore thousands of their most recently published books and discover new authors with all sorts of exciting ideas. Some of them, like Claudette H. McLennon’s “Sins of the Parents,” even go as far as to create entire fictionalized histories of a person’s whole life. McLennon had previously been writing poetry but was excited to have her first work of prose exhibited.

“The amazing thing was she didn’t try to stop the memories or was overly emotional about them. What could she do at this point anyway?”

The Frankfurt Book Fair, also known as Frankfurter Buchmesse, was once again another massive gathering of publishers, authors, and many readers who were eager to see their latest works. Plenty of the featured books shared all sorts of new premises and twists as well as personal outpouring of lived experiences.

Among them was a very good example in the form of Sins of the Parents by Claudette H. McLennon, a writer who had previously focused on poetry but was excited to exhibit her first work of prose.

In one way, the book is a work that encompasses a number of genres such as drama, romance, redemption, family, and more. The primary reason is that it presents itself as a very detailed account of its main character’s entire life, with all its joys, sorrows, regrets, and hopes.

Its main heroine is Marlene Tulloch, and the story starts just as her life is about to end. She’s in a hospital bed, suffering from cancer. Her loving husband is by her side. Yet, in the haze of medication and weariness, she finds her mind drifting back through her past. She looks back on the children she’s raised, and the happiness she felt as they grew up. She then goes back further to the success she had as a professional, proud to have escaped the difficulties that characterized her early childhood.

Of course, readers will eventually learn just how troubled that childhood really was. Born an orphan and raised by a grandmother who despised her for her daughter’s death, Marlene’s future was bleak given the time period she was born into. Fortunately, it’s also where the book shines on the kindness of others who got her out of that situation.

Claudette H. McLennon was able to exhibit her first novel at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2023, thanks to some support from ReadersMagnet, a book marketing and self-publishing company. Sins of the Parents is available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
