“Embrace the challenge of being mindful, insightful, to hold to what is true, and to live your best life now.”

The Printers Row Lit Fest 2023 invited many publishers to display some of the newest books on the streets of Chicago, encouraging many curious onlookers to discover new ideas as well as insightful solutions to some of life’s challenges.

Though, for retired social worker and spiritual academic Evelyn Olivia Thomas, the challenge of aging has answers from the most surprising places.

That’s why she compiled her thoughts in her book Reverend Teacher Talks on Aging. And with the help of ReadersMagnet, a book marketing and self-publishing firm, she secured an exhibit for it during the Printers Row Lit Fest 2023.

The main topic of her book is transformative aging. Using a voice she dubs the Reverend Teacher, Thomas makes references to different spiritual traditions on how to make aging a better experience. These include reflection, meditation and various laws of life found across other faiths. It is a book meant to create that much-sought greater awareness that promotes personal fulfillment as well as better health.

Thomas synthesized many of these ideas as a result of her academic background. She graduated from the Jane Addams College of Social work, University of Illinois Chicago and came to have a dual approach to the subject of aging (one side being academic and the other spiritual).

She’s even an ordained minister for the Universal Foundation For Better Living (UFBL) and has taught classes at the Johnnie Colemon Institute. But while retired from social work, she finds that publishing books and sharing her wisdom in events like the Printers Row Lit Fest 2023 can go a long way to still help people address sobering realities like aging.

Evelyn Olivia Thomas’ Reverend Teacher Talks on Aging is available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
