Dennis Jung’s “The Siren’s Refrain” Rekindled a Love Affair at the 2023 Frankfurt Book Fair

Dennis Jung’s “The Siren’s Refrain” was exhibited by self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet at the 2023 Frankfurt Book Fair, which took place last October 18-22, 2023, at the Frankfurt Trade Fair grounds, Frankfurt am Main, Germany.

ReadersMagnet aims to help authors increase their brand profile, reach their target readers, build their networks, and drive sales by exhibiting their works at national and international book events, such as the Frankfurt Book Fair. The company exhibited several titles as part of its aim to share the works of authors with the world.

“The Siren’s Refrain” follows the renowned travel writer and novelist Leon Riser, who is not only approaching middle age but also facing a terminal illness. Due to his age and illness, he sequesters himself in his cabin in the Rockies with his private duty nurse, Fumiko Sato.

Unexpectedly, Leon’s former stepdaughter Iris visits him and tells him about the status of her mother, the famous singer-songwriter Lou Ann Catskill. Iris’s request to help her find her mother lets Leon reignite his love affair with Lou, who is missing as she walks out on her current husband.

Despite his limitations and conflicted emotions, Leon agrees to accompany Iris as far as Santa Fe, Lou Ann’s most recent domicile. Fumiko also has to accompany them to look after Leon. Their journey brought him a revisit on his painful memories of his failed relationship. Their parallel cross-country odysseys eventually lead them to Austin, culminating in revelations, reckonings, and regrets.

Author’s Biography

Dennis Jung was born in the small German-speaking community of Fredericksburg, Texas, in 1947. He had the good fortune of having a bibliophile mother who fostered in him a love of stories and reading. He began writing short stories in grade school, which continued as a hobby in college. After receiving a BA in Anthropology at the University of Texas in Austin, he spent two years as a Military Police Lieutenant in Germany, which introduced him to the joys of travel.

He later earned an undergraduate degree in nursing from the University of Texas and received advanced training as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. During a subsequent stint traveling the Pacific and Asia, in which he was volunteering in the Marshall Islands, he began writing in earners. First, there were the travelogues he sent home to family and friends who encouraged him. He and his wife later settled in Honolulu, where he received a Master’s Degree in Nursing from the University of Hawaii and, for a brief time, taught there in the graduate program. After resettling in Santa Fe, New Mexico, he began writing novel-length stories. He has just completed his tenth novel in as many years. He still resides in Santa Fe and is working on his next novel.
