Judith Perkins’ Family Memoir Gives Glimpses Through American History While Exhibiting at the Printers Row Lit Fest 2023

Every year, the Printers Row Lit Fest celebrates the work of authors, both past and present, in the largest outdoor book showcase in the Midwest. And for Judith Cottingham Perkins, Chicago’s outdoor literary festival was another opportunity to share her family’s stories with her book “Life and Love Continue.” The book is a fascinating collection of various accounts that not only share Perkins’ life but also of others who came before her.

“To my Grandchildren, Great-Grandchildren and those that follow…”

Many Chicago residents know the Printers Row Lit Fest for its massive outdoor book exhibits that offer people a chance to discover great reads as they go along the sidewalk. On the other hand, the event is also a celebration of the city’s past, particularly the period where Printers Row once served as the city’s major publishing hub.

Incidentally, Judith Cottingham Perkins shares this fondness for the past, and it served as one of her motivations for writing her book, “Life and Love Continue.” The book was also among those in the exhibits (with support from ReadersMagnet, a self-publishing and book marketing company).

Perkins considers herself to have been very fortunate growing up and meeting more grandparents than most average Americans (including at least one great-grandmother). The greatest treasure they passed on to her were the stories of their lives, which now seem like they came from very different time periods.

Some of these stories go as far back as the 1800s, giving readers not just a glimpse of an old relative’s life but even that of the town they lived in just as it was barely out of its frontier days.

Naturally, Perkins also adds in more contemporary accounts from her own journey, particularly the decision she and her husband made to start touring across the states in a motorhome.

For history buffs, her book certainly made for an entertaining journey through time during the Printers Row Lit Fest 2023.

Judith Cottingham Perkins’ “Life and Love Continue” is available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
