Maggie Reidy’s Children’s Book on Caring for Ourselves and Our Planet Soon to Exhibit at the 2023 Guadalajara International Book Fair

Every continent seems to have its share of massive book fairs, and for the Americas, that takes in the form of the Guadalajara International Book Fair, also known as Feria Internacional del Libro de Guadalajara (FIL). Set near the end of the year, it will once again bring numerous global publishers who wish to exhibit their authors and share their ideas.

Maggie Reidy is one of those authors, and the goal of her children’s book “The Great Global Pause: Inspired by Life on Earth in 2020” is to help humans of all ages reflect on this challenging time on earth while teaching the importance of caring for ourselves, each other, and our planet.

“The Great Global Pause” follows a little child, swimming at sea when they suddenly come across a giant sea turtle. Its name is Keola, and she is known as the Grandmother Turtle.

Together, the pair embark on an enchanted, underwater adventure where they see what had happened to the ocean during the COVID-19 pandemic. The child is amazed by the new abundance of life and together with Keola, they talk about what it means to offer kindness to ourselves, each other, and the rest of creation.

Reidy intends the book to teach a lot of informative and touching lessons about how humans and nature must coexist. Rather than simply surviving together, it encourages everyone to thrive. As a registered clinical counsellor, she has spent over 25 years helping others create kinder relationships and often uses the turtle as her go-to counselling metaphor.

She hopes that her book will continue to inspire hope and resilience in readers as they continue to face the onset of challenges facing the world today.

Maggie Reidy’s “The Great Global Pause: Inspired by Life on Earth in 2020” by Maggie Reidy, M.Ed., will be displayed at the ReadersMagnet exhibit at booth GG38 during the 2023 Guadalajara International Book Fair. The event will run from November 23 to December 3, 2023, at the Expo Guadalajara Convention Center, Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.

Maggie Reidy is a Registered Clinical Counsellor who has over 25 years’ experience working with humans of all ages. Maggie has always loved Turtles and often uses the turtle as a metaphor in counselling. “We all have a turtle shell, and we all need to go in there and make sure it is clean and healthy under the surface. However, if we spend too much time in there, it is dark and isolating. We need to poke our head out and ask for help and help each other through the waves. If you see a turtle on its back, another one will come and rock it until it is moving forward again. We all need each other.”

Maggie says this book came to her during a very challenging time on earth when the whole world was on pause and she knew that it was time to get this message of hope out into families, groups and classrooms.
