Vox Media Podcast Network’s “Land of the Giants: The Twitter Fantasy” Premieres October 25

The Vox Media Podcast Network announced the next season of its award-winning series, Land of the Giants. Premiering on Wednesday, October 25 and hosted by Vox’s Peter Kafka, Land of the Giants: The Twitter Fantasy will tell the story of Twitter (now known as X) at a crucial moment for the platform, exactly one year after Elon Musk took over. The four-episode season will survey the social media company’s outsize influence on politics and culture and explore how its design helped build online communities and launch social media movements, while also fueling political outrage and discord. The show will also examine the company’s struggle to find a profitable business model – and how those struggles led to Musk’s eventual ownership. The season will close with a look back at the year under Musk, and contemplate whether there’s room today for a version of the Twitter we used to know, and what its decline tells us about the state - and future - of social media.

“I’ve been using Twitter since its launch in 2006 - I believe my first tweet was about going Christmas shopping - and started reporting on it soon after that,” said Kafka. “Everyone has a different feed, which makes it a challenge to cover, but that’s also the fun part: Starting all the way back with its founders, people have wanted different things out of this company, which means you have a nearly infinite amount of stories to tell. In this series we dive into those stories and explain why any of this matters.”

Featuring extensive interviews with Twitter insiders and users, Land of the Giants includes conversations with former Twitter CEO Dick Costolo, first VP of Product Jason Goldman, Yoel Roth, a former head of trust and safety along with additional early and recent employees, industry experts and Twitter users themselves. Joining Peter to co-host episode 2 of the series will be Wired’s Senior Writer Lauren Goode. New episodes are available every Wednesday on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts.
