Carol Gault Showcases Professional Bird Photography in Poetic Animal Alphabet Book “Albatross to Zenaida”

Carol Ann Gault is a landscape and wildlife photographer whose passion for picture taking started at a very early age. In recent years, she has started transforming some of her best work into educational materials that teach about the Earth’s amazing animals. One of these projects is a published book, “Albatross to Zenaida,” a rhyming alphabet book centered on various bird species.

“A poetically swinging alphabet on fine, feathered wings.”

Ever since she was five, Carol Ann Gault found herself developing a knack for photography. Today, she is a professional wildlife and landscape photographer excited to show the many amazing creatures her lens has captured on the field.

Along with her skills in graphic design and some minor experience in art, Gault has been transforming her photographs into a variety of other creative products. One of her most recent projects is a book titled “Albatross to Zenaida”, an alphabet book with a rhyming scheme meant to teach readers about iconic bird species. The book has already been displayed at a number of national and international book events this year, with several more on its itinerary in the coming months.

Asides from the titular birds, the book also features penguins, parrots and other exotic feathered friends that Gault had photographed over her extensive career. The rhyming scheme focuses on what makes each bird unique, teaching young readers a great deal of fun facts about what they do in the wild.

Gault has been honing her photography skills with greater seriousness ever since she had finally completed her master’s degree in mammal ecology. She has been attending workshops and classes in Colorado Mountain College and had even taken lessons with National Geographic photographer David Hiser.

“Albatross to Zenaida” is just one of several books she plans to release so far, with each one dedicated to specific animal groups. At some point, she hopes to exhibit them all around the world and inspire young readers to share in her love for nature.

Author Bio
At the ripe old age of five years old, with 3 cereal box tops, and 50 cents, Carol Gault purchased her first camera. With the first roll of film, she learned how to hold the camera steady and relatively level. When that camera ceased to function, her parents let her take their old Kodak with a shutter that sounded like the horn of a Model T car, and she was off to Y camp, taking pictures of her friends and counselors. The Kodak Instamatic became her favorite tool in her teenage years, and it wasn’t until her mid-twenties that she managed to buy a single-lens reflex.

While she was in graduate school and working on a master’s degree, she worked part-time in a needlework store and became a needlework designer. She achieved her master’s degree in mammal ecology and then had two children and learned about being a mammal firsthand. The camera became a supplement to her career as an at-home biologist, a designer, and a mom. Most of her picture-taking was snapshots of children, flowers in the backyard, and the occasional vacation trip. She had a book published, “Needlework Dragons and other Mythical Creatures,” with Van Nostrand Rheinhold. She took classes on graphic design and computer graphics and self-published several needlework instruction pamphlets.

As a perpetual student and moving to Aspen as a refugee from real life, she started taking her photography more seriously and attended classes with David Hiser, the faculty at Colorado Mountain College, and various workshops offered in the west. Using the biology and design skills she’s picked up along the way, she is now a landscape and wildlife photographer. She has taught digital imaging and photography at the local Colorado Mountain College. Aspen Light Imaging is her company that produces note cards, magnets, laser prints, and other gift-related items from her photographs.
