Ramona Thomas Nickens’ Touching YA Novelette Featuring History of Soul Food Set to Display at the 2023 Guadalajara International Book Fair

The Guadalajara International Book Fair is the largest book fair in the Americas as well as a massive cultural festival that shares ideas from around the world via its numerous book exhibits. So, for educator-turned-author Ramona Thomas Nickens, it’s an exciting opportunity to exhibit her book “IDK!,” a unique blend of young adult fiction with the intent to educate readers on the rich history of soul food in America and its own cultural legacy.

“As a person who has eaten American food their entire life, and thought they knew American food origins I learned quite a bit following the main character, Kyndle, on his journey of exploration. It’s a fast read appropriate for both youths and adults. Thought provoking. And a few twists and turns added for good measure.” – N. E. T.

Towards the year’s end, thousands of publishers are expected to gather in Guadalajara, Mexico, as part of the Americas’ largest book fair: the Guadalajara International Book Fair, also known as Feria Internacional del Libro de Guadalajara (FIL).

The event is not only an opportunity to exhibit hundreds of books but also various cultures and ideas found within them. A great example is by recently published author and educator Ramona Thomas Nickens, M.Ed.

Her book, “IDK!,” belies a surprisingly info-rich foodie novel written in the style of YA fiction. It follows a young man named Kyndle, who is currently in the middle of a project for his school’s upcoming International Day.

One day, though, his teacher had her students name the origin of their cultural food, and no matter how hard he tried, he could not answer her question, because he did not know.
Readers then get to join Kyndle as he goes on to research the origins of some of his favorite recipes and makes some surprising discoveries about the history of American cuisine.

Now, this isn’t the first book that Nickens has written on the subject of food, but the importance of good eating is definitely a lesson she wants to impart with her stories. The novel even includes recipes to a number of the dishes that Kyndle discovers.

So, for those who might be dropping by the Guadalajara International Book Fair 2023, they can find Ramona Thomas’ “IDK!” displayed at the self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet’s exhibit. The book fair will kick off from November 25 to December 3, 2023, at the Expo Guadalajara Convention Center, Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. Get a copy today on Amazon.
