Chenille Johnson’s Children’s Book on Military Life Through a Peppy Dog’s Eyes Exhibited at Printers Row Lit Fest 2023

Every year, Chicago pays tribute to the legacy of its publishing hub with the Printers Row Lit Fest. It’s one of the largest outdoor book exhibits in America and features thousands of new publications. And for very new children’s book authors like Chenille Johnson, it’s an even more exciting opportunity to tell a story they’ve always wanted to share with the wider world.

Johnson is the author of “Bark! I’m Moving,” a book that she had exhibited with the support of ReadersMagnet, a self-publishing and book marketing company.

Unlike a lot of children’s stories, this one teaches more than the usual lesson about moving to a different neighborhood.

It follows Pepster, a little dog adopted by the Bingsleys. One day, though, his biggest buddy in the family comes home and teaches him a new word: P.C.S.

The term is actually the formal military abbreviation for “Permanent Change of Station,” which signals military personnel and their families must be relocated to a new duty station for various reasons.

“Bark! I’m Moving” is actually a way for Johnson to share her real experiences from over the 20 years she has spent as the wife of a military veteran. She is very close to the community that supports the nation’s armed forces and wants to educate kids about what it’s like to be in the family of a soldier.

As a military/veteran spouse of over 20 years, Chenille has taken on the role to volunteer in many organizations inside and outside of the military community. Through Chenille’s personal and diverse professional experience, she has recognized how important it was to have a community to support you and be able to support them through their high and low moments while living a military lifestyle.

Chenille Johnson is a New Jersey native, wife, mother, sister, daughter, advocate, first-time author, avid traveler, music lover, lifelong learner, educator, and much more. Chenille is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Education in Community Care and Counseling with an emphasis on Traumatology. Today, Chenille and her family reside in Maryland.
