Kyle Ann Robertson’s Finalist Story of Family Drama Amidst Troubled Soul-Searching Exhibited at Printers Row Lit Fest 2023

The Printers Row Lit Fest 2023 invited many Chicago residents to reignite their love for reading in the space once occupied by the city’s publishing heart. So, for passionate writers like Kyle Ann Robertson, it’s a great opportunity to display their work so that their words, stories, and ideas engage the audience out in the open streets. And given the content of her book, “White Picket Fences,” many readers were in for quite a read as they experience a deep exploration of a fragmenting family.

“This was beautifully written, and I felt as though was reading Julie’s personal diary about her innermost thoughts and feelings.” – BookBub Reader Review

Like many book-centric events, Chicago’s Printers Row Lit Fest aims to encourage literacy among the American people and invite passersby to discover new worlds, new stories, and new ideas all in the pages of the publications being exhibited.

For Royal Palm Literary Award finalist Kyle Ann Robertson, it’s a very ideal spot for people to connect with very dramatic stories like the one she tells in White Picket Fences. The book was on display with the help of ReadersMagnet, a book marketing and self-publishing firm.

Robertson has long wanted to put her ideas into writing after working over 20 years as a fitness studio owner and a physical therapy assistant. No doubt the experience (along with that of raising four kids) had given her much to say about themes explored in her book. After earning a Creative Writing certificate from Emory University, she began dipping her toes into publishing which eventually culminated in White Picket Fences gaining much acclaim.

The novel follows Julie Cahill, a mother struggling to find herself as she pursues the dream of having a comfortably (and permanently) settled family. The daughter of a military parent, she did not want her own children to experience the impermanence of home, relationships, and community that her life did.

Unfortunately, her attachment to her dream appears to create other strains in her relationships with the rest of her family. Followed by a sudden, tragic event, she finds herself spiraling into controlling behavior that could prove ultimately disastrous.

Robertson was glad that her story really resonated with readers upon its initial run and was excited for doing the same to those who encountered her book during the Printers Row Lit Fest 2023.
