Stephen Lloyd Auslender’s Comedic Tale About Industrial Era Dingbats and Robber Barons Exhibited at Printers Row Lit Fest 2023

For some Chicagoans, the Printers Row Lit Fest isn’t just some kind of book fair. It commemorates a part of America’s literary history. On the very streets where the festival is held annually, hundreds of printing houses once stood.

So, for author Stephen Lloyd Auslender, that made it a very ideal event to exhibit his piece of historical fiction at the Printers Row Lit Fest 2023: “The Streamlined Locomotive.” The exhibit was made possible with the support of ReadersMagnet, a self-publishing and book marketing company.

Auslender had spent about 50 years working in the field of mechanical and industrial design. While on the side, he also had a passion for sculpture as much as writing. Together, they combined to create the comedic story told in “The Streamlined Locomotive.”

The novel is set during the height of the industrial revolution. And among the scores of robber barons who have defined America’s cutthroat empires of steel and steam, few rivalled the notorious Bezelbottom clan.

The story follows the Bezelbottom’s chosen heir, Theo. Unfortunately for the whole clan, Theo would sooner live in the lap of luxury at everyone’s expense than do any actual work.

Still, things take a horrific turn for him when the most ruthless uncle and family patriarch demands Theo take more responsibility for the family’s affairs. And should he fail, he’ll be shipped off to the first frontline as America prepares for WWII!

Stephen Lloyd Auslender first earned a B.S. degree in Industrial design before moving on to express his surrealist visions in sculpture, where he then earned an M.F.A degree. He also holds doctorate in Creative Arts. Over the past 50 years, he has taught and worked in Mechanical Design and in Sculpture. His view of life is a combination of comedy and tragedy. Today, he has retired from the Mechanical Design and Educational fields and now pursues sculpting and writing.
