Pandemic-Time Legal Drama by Mark H. Dumm Seen Over at the San Diego Union-Tribune Festival of Books 2023
Legal dramas always make for thrilling reads as much they make for hit TV shows. But for Mark H. Dumm, however, he thought it’d be quite a twist to also set one right in the midst of the massive social upheaval of the 2020 COVID-19 crisis. Titled “Lawyering Into A Pandemic,” this sizzling yet suspenseful tale was recently exhibited at the San Diego Union-Tribune Festival of Books.

Last August 19, 2023, at the University of San Diego, Alcala Park, San Diego, CA, the San Diego Union-Tribune Festival of Books took place. Their story has it all: Fateful courtroom encounters that turn to rivalry, then sizzling into romance. There is intrigue, suspense and foul play also lurking in the back.
And yet, even with that, there is an even bigger shadow: The story is set in 2020, just as the pandemic has gone full bore, creating societal upheaval in all walks of life, including legal proceedings. Now mixed with the additional themes of isolation and silent distance, Dumm’s novel is certainly a sharply distinct reinvention of love-among-lawyers.
