Cross-Generational Memoir by Judith Cottingham Perkins Exhibited at the San Diego Union-Tribune Festival of Books 2023

When Judith Cottingham Perkins wrote her memoir, she wasn’t content with just telling her own story. She felt called to do the bigger task of preserving stories from much older generations of her family. Titled “Life and Love Continue,” Perkins compiles personal accounts as told by grandparents and great grandparents before them. The book was even exhibited at the 7th San Diego Union-Tribune Festival of Books.

“To my Grandchildren, Great-Grandchildren and those that follow…”

Judith Cottingham Perkins lived a relatively simple life. She spent most of her working career in retail and insurance with her husband. When they both retired, they decided to get a motorhome to embark on a series of adventurous road trips that took them across 40 states.

Still, she wasn’t content with just telling that story in her recently published memoir “Life and Love Continue.” In fact, she realized that she had even more stories to tell about the lives of the many who came before her.

That is why her book also contains several personal accounts from the time of her grandparents and even her great grandparents. And because such accounts were of great historical value, Perkins had gone as far as to have this book exhibited at the recent San Diego Union-Tribune Festival of Books 2023. The exhibit was made possible with the help of ReadersMagnet, a book marketing and self-publishing company.

Many of the stories in Perkins’ “Life and Love Continue” date as far back as the 1800s, during the Wild West period and offers glimpses of the distinct culture of the time. And as some festival visitors would read on, they’ll see these stories gradually go across decades and present an image of a whole family line moving, settling, marrying, and experiencing the shift to the 20th century.

Perkins is now at the age of 80 herself and a grandmother to new generations. It was her hope that, with the publishing of this cross-generational memoir, the accounts of her family will continue to pass on. And who knows? Perhaps it can even be part of a bigger story about America.

Judith Cottingham Perkins’s “Life and Love Continue” is available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
