He is a graduate of the University of California, San Diego, in engineering science (1972) and Stanford University in Astronautics (MS-1974). He is a student of the Edgar Cayce readings on healing and has studied edible and medicinal plants with Vickie Shufer, Tom Brown Jr., and Dr. James Duke.
