National Urban League Announces Appointment of White House Official Tara Murray To Washington Bureau

NEW YORK – WEBWIRE

National Urban League President and CEO Marc H. Morial announced the appointment of Tara Murray to the position of Executive Director of the organization’s Washington Bureau and Senior Vice President for Policy.

“Tara’s depth of experience and expertise around the issues of equity, civil rights, and racial justice will help to sharpen and advance our public policy agenda and our partnerships within Congress and the Biden Administration" Morial said.

Murray currently serves as Special Assistant to the President and Deputy Director of the White House Office of Public Engagement. In this role, she leads, develops, and executes the national stakeholder outreach and engagement strategy for the White House across constituency groups.  She previously served the Biden-Harris Administration as a White House Fellow in the Office of Cabinet Affairs, where she served as a liaison between the White House and the Cabinet and managed a portfolio of 14 federal agencies.

Before starting her own law office in Washington, D.C., Murray led a team of lawyers, investigators, and social service providers as Deputy Director of London-based human rights NGO Reprieve where she represented men imprisoned at Guantánamo Bay and spearheaded the first investigations into the community impact of drone strikes in Pakistan, which brought international attention to the drones program and led to a U.K. judicial review, United Nations investigation, and U.S. congressional hearing.

Murray is a graduate of Howard University and Harvard Law School, and holds an LL.M. degree in Advocacy from Georgetown University Law Center.
