Jonea Mounsey’s Memoir of High-Stakes and International Adventure Soon to Exhibit at the Frankfurt Book Fair (Frankfurter Buchmesse)

The Frankfurt Book Fair (Frankfurter Buchmesse) is a very prestigious event that brings together international publishers to network with authors, discuss industry trends, and see what’s next in today’s literature and publishing.

And because of that, hundreds if not thousands of books are expected to exhibit at the book trade fair, giving visitors a glimpse into the minds of writers from all corners of the world.

There are some, however, who go further as to have written about their many ventures spanning across those same corners.

Such is the story told by Jonea Mounsey in her memoir “I Choose the Moon: My Journey from the Midwest to the Middle East.”

In terms of profession, Mounsey is an RN with 27 years of experience. But in just those 27 years, she has gone from the American Midwest to the Middle East and beyond. Today, she is the mother of four successful adults who, in turn, have given her six grandkids.

Despite that, she still considers herself an adrenaline junkie and passionate about outdoor adventure. It’s this same feisty and determined spirit that has carried her through the incredibly difficult journey described in her book. Growing up in the rural part of Indiana, Mounsey had to struggle with realizing her globetrotting dreams in the face of social expectations, an increasingly controlling husband, and then raising four kids from her loveless marriage.

Jonea Mounsey, mother of four successful adults and grandma to six rowdy grandkids, has spent the past twenty-seven years as an RN caring for people in the United States and abroad. She has cared for patients in the hospital setting, in a burning forest, in the air as a flight nurse, on a seismic ship, in an emergency department in New Zealand, and in the desert of Iraq.

Making a promise to a friend that she would put her life undertakings and daring experiences into print, she has written her first memoir, “I Choose the Moon: My Journey from the Midwest to the Middle East.”

Jonea likes living on the edge and is a true adrenaline junkie. A competitive athlete, she has participated in three ultra-races on three continents. Her soul thrives on keeping fit and spending time outdoors camping, hiking, climbing mountains, or exploring nature.

Her favorite things are traveling to foreign lands while experiencing local customs and cultures and making new friends along the way. These days, she splits her days between (Arizona) and (Iraq), carving out a little time to work on her next book.
