Soon to Display at Printers Row Lit Fest: The Soul-Searching Adventure of Globe-Trotting RN Jonea Mounsey

Of the hundreds of books slated to exhibit at the Printers Row Lit Fest 2023, there is no doubt that plenty of them will be memoirs of people who want to leave behind an incredible true story to inspire future generations.

For Jonea Mounsey, that story is one that took her to some of the most dangerous parts of the world just to pursue a very elusive calling. It’s all described in her book, “I Choose the Moon: My Journey from the Midwest to the Middle East.”

In her book, Mounsey describes over twenty years of her career as an RN. However, her story is far from the usual one comprised of just long stints at one or two hospitals. When she was growing up in one of Indiana’s rural areas, she had always held a deep-seated desire to see the world, no matter what profession she would pursue.

This desire would inevitably clash with a society that had far different expectations of women, including a marriage that malformed into something very unhealthy and abusive.

Unable to deny her situation any longer, she made the risky decision to break off her marriage, bring her four kids, and escape to the wider world. Her travels would take her across the American Midwest, into an emergency department in New Zealand, and all the way out to a desert station in Iraq.

Today, her four kids have grown into four successful adults who have given her plenty of grandkids to share her adventures with.

Visitors to the Printers Row Lit Fest 2023 can learn more about how Jonea Mounsey overcame all the adversity in her spirited journey when “I Choose the Moon” goes on display at the self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet’s exhibit. The fest will be running on September 9-10, 2023, at Printers Row Park, 620 South Dearborn Street, Chicago, IL, USA.

Jonea Mounsey, mother of four successful adults and grandma to six rowdy grandkids, has spent the past twenty-seven years as an RN caring for people in the United States and abroad. She has cared for patients in the hospital setting, in a burning forest, in the air as a flight nurse, on a seismic ship, in an emergency department in New Zealand, and in the desert of Iraq.

Making a promise to a friend that she would put her life undertakings and daring experiences into print, she has written her first memoir, “I Choose the Moon: My Journey from the Midwest to the Middle East.”

Jonea likes living on the edge and is a true adrenaline junkie. A competitive athlete, she has participated in three ultra-races on three continents. Her soul thrives on keeping fit and spending time outdoors camping, hiking, climbing mountains, or exploring nature.

Her favorite things are traveling to foreign lands while experiencing local customs and cultures and making new friends along the way. These days, she splits her days between (Arizona) and (Iraq), carving out a little time to work on her next book.
