Dick Durland is 63 years old, married, a father of three, and a degreed engineer. He still considers himself a novice author and can be found on Publisher’s Marketplace or his website at https://dickdurland-author.squarespace.com.

Dick has been in management for most of his career, splitting his time between manufacturing and, more recently, the quality realm, with a dozen years spent toiling at the corporate level. To date, his working life has remained a ‘means to an end,’ preferring to focus more on the things he’s come to enjoy most over the years.

While the family has always come first, he’s managed to race automobiles, fly hot-air balloons, hang-glide, white-water raft, and mix in some travel along the way, including excursions hunting for ghosts and a search for the perfect rum cocktail, to name a few.

Dick’s tendency to seek out the fun in life is further demonstrated in his penchant for ‘super-sizing’ the parties he’s thrown, as reflected in the “About the Author” of one previously published effort:

“Dick Durland is the self-proclaimed ‘king of the theme party,’ possessing an extensive collection of relative artifacts he keeps stored away on his property accumulated over the years from hosting a wide variety of themed party events. Totem poles live in his backyard, Halloween in his attic, palm trees in his shed, and where most people house their automobile in their garage, you’ll find a functioning volcano in his. By day, Dick is a degreed engineer who lives with his wife Susan and three children in Paxton, Massachusetts. By night, he remains a party die-hard.”

Standing testimony to his eternal search for a good time, Dick has published one previous book, “Halloween: Life of the Party” (Newman Springs, 2020), where he found that his career in quality management (and perhaps a touch of OCD) helped to ‘pre-season’ his technical writing skills, having to dot all those I’s and cross all those T’s for a living.

As he approaches his retirement years, he’d like nothing more than to continue his desire to document select passions in his life. His non-fiction book, “Winning the Day: Saving Baseball,” is his latest effort, drawing on his experiences related to his all-time, number one preoccupation—his son’s baseball career.
