“Tempest” is Charles Coffin’s retelling about his experiences in the U.S. Navy during his service in the Vietnam War. The story centers around the U.S. Riverine Forces through the lens of the Navy officer Charles “Tuck” Coffin. He tells how life immediately changed aboard the ship, even when they were not in the war area. The story tells a different kind of war.

Aboard the ship, the author describes how some officers used their power to bully their fellow officers. Being the victim of power tripping and bullying, the author exposes a different kind of war one had to endure. The higher officers had created a hostile environment using fear and intimidation that made it difficult to power through a 24/7 existence.
