Chenille Johnson’s Book Starring a Darling Dog in the Military Family Life Will Be Displayed at the Printers Row Lit Fest 2023

The Printers Row Lit Fest 2023 will be showcasing a number of children’s books that introduce kids to important basics such as reading, counting, and more. However, there will also be other books that talk about complicated subjects. In the case of Chenille Johnson’s book, “Bark! I’m Moving,” it is about life within the military community as told through the eyes of their adopted dog Pepster.

“To my children, Azaria and Quentin… for your unwavering support. The two of you have endured the military lifestyle your whole lives.”

At the Printers Row Lit Fest 2023, hundreds of children’s books are expected to exhibit, offering new authors a chance to reach a wider audience of young readers and teach important life skills such as reading, counting, and basic knowledge about the world. However, there will also be a lot of other children’s books centered on more complex topics to show kids about very special situations and how they can understand them.

Chenille Johnson’s book “Bark! I’m Moving” is one example. Told from the perspective of an adopted dog named Pepster, it’s a book that doesn’t just tell a simple story about moving. It introduces kids to a family’s life in a military community.

Little Pepster was adopted by the Bingsley family a long time ago. However, one day, his big buddy in the family came home and told him a strange new word: P.C.S.

As the story goes on, readers will learn that it means ‘Permanent Change of Station,’ a term used in the military where personnel (and even their families) are expected to move to different duty stations.

Johnson wrote the book as a way to give young readers a glimpse into her true life as the wife of a veteran of over 20 years. She’s been an active volunteer both in and outside the military community, gaining a passion for increasing awareness and educating others about life there.

Visitors to the Printers Row Lit Fest 2023 will have a chance to learn about how little Pepster goes along in the big move when “Bark! I’m Moving” goes on display at the self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet’s exhibit. The event will take place on September 9-10, 2023, at Printers Row Park, South Loop, Chicago, Illinois.
