It tells of unbelievable challenges, courage and accomplishments in the life of a brave man who lived through one of Russia’s most turbulent times.

Marsha Denison’s biography of her father, “Grisha’s Loop - My Slavic Saga: From the Bolshevik Revolution to America - A Story of Courage and Survival,” was exhibited by self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet at the 2023 London Book Fair. The book trade fair was held last April 18-20, 2023, at Olympia London, London, UK.

Marsha Denison shares her father’s story growing up in Imperial Russia. Gregoire or Gregory was raised by an extended family in Southern Russia. As a young man, he witnessed the Bolshevik Revolution and the frightening incidents that happened during the war. He participated in the Russian Revolution as a member of the Tsar’s army during the civil war. After serving his country, he decided to abandon his education at Petrograd University to pursue a nomadic journey through Russia and around the Black Sea.

The author stumbled upon her father’s unfinished autobiography while clearing out her parents’ home. She found a box containing valuable documents that her father, Gregory John Samoylenko, brought with him from Russia to the United States of America. The box contained photographs of family and friends and her father’s autobiography.

Her father’s life story came as a shock to her since her father was a private man. Gregory survived the Russian Revolution. He returned to the village where he grew up but was captured by the Cossacks who were still fighting with the Bolsheviks. His journey started when he escaped from the Cossacks, got stranded in the Black Sea, worked in Turkey’s oil fields, and found his way to America.
