Los Angeles (August 22, 2023) – Today, ForeVR Games, a leader in casual virtual reality (VR) gaming, received an Honorable Mention in Fast Company’s Innovation by Design Awards for 2023 in the ‘Apps & Games’ category. The company’s contributions in furthering VR game accessibility stood out to Fast Company’s esteemed panel of judges.

Featured in the September 2023 issue of Fast Company, the Innovation by Design Awards honor the designers and businesses solving the most crucial problems of today and anticipating the pressing issues of tomorrow. The competition, now in its 12th year, features a range of blue-chip companies, emerging startups, and hungry young talents. It is one of the most sought-after design awards in the industry.

ForeVR Games is setting a new standard for inclusivity by designing its games with accessibility at its core. Each game is built from the ground up with inclusivity in mind, beginning with input from the company’s accessibility advisor, Dr. Cathy Bodine, Director of the Coleman Institute for Cognitive Disabilities. The company’s growing suite of games – Pool, Bowling, Cornhole, and Darts – offer diverse play styles, including one-handed, one-button, seated, and standing play, catering to users who are wheelchair- or bed-bound. Additional accessibility features include “dominant eye” settings for those with visual impairments and motion control settings for users prone to dizziness, motion sickness, or vertigo.

“By putting accessibility at the forefront of development, we’re breaking barriers to make sure the fun of VR gaming isn’t limited by a person’s physical abilities,” said Marcus Segal, CEO and co-founder of ForeVR Games. “I’m extremely proud of our team for this well-deserved recognition, which motivates us even more to keep coming up with new ideas and reimagining what the future of VR gaming will look like.”

“So much innovation news these days is focused on AI,” said Brendan Vaughan, editor-in-chief of Fast Company. “This year’s Innovation by Design honorees are a reminder that it’s human ingenuity that drives invention.”

Approximately 15% of the world’s population lives with a disability, and many VR games and experiences available today don’t incorporate thoughtful accessibility features. ForeVR Games’ dedication to inclusivity has led to a vibrant and diverse community, with a focus on creating a safe and enjoyable space for players of all abilities.

Judges include renowned designers from a variety of disciplines, business leaders from some of the most innovative companies in the world, and Fast Company’s own writers and editors. Entries are judged on the key ingredients of innovation: functionality, originality, beauty, sustainability, user insight, cultural impact, and business impact.
