“This book should be required reading in every American history class in the country.” - Amazon Review

Janis Pardue Hill, PhD, who edited and compiled the writings of her father into the memoir Telling His Story: POW #1000, was pleased to see the book exhibited by ReadersMagnet, the self-publishing and book marketing company, during the Hong Kong Book Fair 2023. The Hong Kong Book Fair, known as one of the largest book fairs in Asia, took place July 19-25, 2023, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, Hong Kong.

As editor and compiler of the book, Dr. Hill details her father’s experiences in the Philippines during World War II, which included the following: his enlistment in the US Army Air Corps; the battle to defend Bataan; the brutal, inhumane treatment during the Bataan Death March and in the POW camps; his life as a captive in Japan; and his return home after the Japanese surrender, determined to live a Christian life and never once expressing hatred or a desire for revenge.

Janis Pardue Hill strongly believes her father’s experience is an inspiring survival story despite the challenging and seemingly impossible odds. She hopes her book will encourage readers to appreciate soldiers who defend our freedom, understand the horrors of war and evil, and recognize the power of faith. Her father found strength in his Holy Bible, which was lost to him three times but which always returned to him. When his and his buddies’ jungle camp was hit with a fragmentation bomb, everything was devastated and shredded, except his Bible. Within this survival story is a story of the miracle of POW #1000’s Bible.
