Rukanshagiza at the 2023 Hong Kong Book Fair. The event occurred on July 19–25, 2023, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, Hong Kong.

Published by ReadersMagnet, “The African Question” is a thought-provoking book that delves into European imperialism’s impact on African nations, shedding light on the continent’s profound political and social complexities. It provides a compelling argument, tracing Africa’s political problems to the very formation of its states.

Dr. Rukanshagiza contends that these nations’ boundaries are not only artificial but also have a profound impact on the psychology of their people, contributing to a myriad of political and social issues.

Among the many complex issues discussed in the book is the failure of numerous African countries to achieve sustained economic growth, coupled with internal political instability marked by conflicts, fragmentation, and social unrest. Furthermore, Dr. Rukanshagiza critically examines why African nations have struggled to unite into a cohesive entity despite the advocacy of nationalist leaders during the pre-independence era.

Drawing upon centuries of colonial rule, “The African Question” offers a comprehensive exploration of Africa’s current political, economic, and social landscape, providing readers with a historical lens to comprehend the continent’s present challenges.
