Erma Gray’s Collection of Classic, Community-Loved Recipes Soon to Exhibit at the San Diego Union-Tribune Festival of Books 2023

At the upcoming San Diego Union-Tribune Festival of Books 2023, visitors can find a wide range of books on just about every topic. These include books on home décor and countless cookbooks.

But for those looking to whip up some sweet Mississippi classics (or just curious about family recipes), they can check out “Cooking with Erma Gray.” Gray published this book a little over ten years ago, but the recipes she put together were long passed down by her mother and her grandmother before her.

From Mississippi Mud Cake to Pot Roasted Pork and Potatoes, Gray’s recipes promise a hearty meal. They are written in a simple, conversational manner that even somebody with minimal cooking skill can follow. There are recipes for a number of occasions as well as simpler ones that can be done in less than 30 minutes.

Gray has been a passionate cook since the time she was a little girl helping her mother pull off the perfect dish even in daily meals. Her mother and her grandmother were praised by her community for being excellent cooks, so it was only right that she carried on their legacy by teaching their culinary craft through her book. Gray has also taken her cooking skills on professional stints at Hormel Foods and Quaker Oats.

Anyone visiting the San Diego Union-Tribune Festival of Books can check out “Cooking with Erma Gray” when it goes on display at the self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet’s exhibit. The event kicks off on August 19, 2023, at the University of San Diego, 5998 Alcala Park, San Diego, CA. Erma Gray’s cookbook is available on both Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Author Bio
Erma was born and raised in Shelby, Mississippi. She attended Broad Street High School. Erma worked for such companies as Baxter Laboratory, St. Regis Paper Company, Hormel Foods and Quaker Oats. Friends and family members constantly needed her help and expertise in the areas of cooking and apparel designs for special occasions. This prompted Erma to launch out on her own as an entrepreneur and offer services for catering and apparel design. Erma and her husband, Marvin Gray, are happily married and live in Dallas, Texas. She has three sons, Darrell Gray, Johnny Gray, Cupid Gray, one daughter, Jacqueline Gray and, a grandson, Pkedric Gray, who inspired me to write this book.
