American Express Foundation Backs Communities Impacted by Wildfires in Hawaii

WEBWIRE

A version of this memo was shared  with our colleagues from Jennifer Skyler, Chief Corporate Affairs and Communications Officer and Madge Thomas, President of the American Express Foundation:

Over the last few days, wildfires raging on the Hawaiian island of Maui have been one of the most devastating natural disasters the region has ever experienced, destroying the culturally important city of Lahaina, displacing many families, causing widespread power outages and resulting in a heart-breaking death toll that is expected to rise over the coming days. Our thoughts are with all those who are experiencing the impacts of this disaster.

In times like these the needs of affected communities have never been more important, and we are doing our part to help. The American Express Foundation is committing $75,000 to support emergency response and relief efforts on the ground through the following organizations:

  • $50,000 to the American Red Cross to support relief efforts such as shelter, food, blankets, emotional support, and other services.
  • $25,000 to World Central Kitchen to offer food and water for first responders and communities.

We will also match colleague contributions toward disaster relief through the American Express Match program.
