Memoir of Mike Geier, Former Chief of Police of the Albuquerque Police Department, Displayed at San Diego Union-Tribune Festival of Books 2023

The San Diego Union-Tribune Festival of Books is more than just another book fair. It is an opportunity for many writers to share different frontline perspectives on some of the America’s hot-button topics. And when it comes to the life of the nation’s police officers, Mike Geier is not afraid to tell the story of his 47 years in the force in his memoir “The Blue Journey.”

“This is a must read for all Albuquerque Police Officers and any cop. It will remind you of your own experiences different but the same. For anyone outside Police Work it is a true look inside that Thin Blue Line. I am a retired A.P.D. Sergeant and Mike worked for me when he first came to A.P.D. I immediately recognized his worth. It is a shame how politicians across the nation are destroying Law Enforcement and their citizens’ quality of life with it. Thank you Mike, watch your six.” – Paul Heh

Later this month, the San Diego Union-Tribune will once again host its own Festival of Books, offering newly published authors to share ideas, stories and information to many avid readers.

But for some authors, however, it is an opportunity to share a perspective on some of America’s most pressing issues. These authors include former Chief of the Albuquerque Police Department Mike Geier, who has just published his memoir “The Blue Journey: Memoirs of a Cop’s Cop.”

In a time when the U.S. continues to grapple with the challenges of police work and even more challenging perceptions of the people in blue, Geier is not afraid to give his unflinching account of the good, the bad and the ugly of his time in the force.

Amidst a world drowning in information about police actions viewed from the outside, Geier offers the increasingly rare perspective of the personal toll that the police life exacts on even its very best and noblest.

Geier has served in policing for nearly 47 years, both in the A.P.D. and suburban Chicago. He’s also worked in pivotal law enforcement positions such as the Metro Anti-Crime Team Supervisor, Gang Unit Supervisor, Crisis Negotiations Team Leader and Emergency Response Lieutenant. He also was the commander for the Violent Crimes Division along with an area command in the field known as the “War Zone.” Asides from crime reduction, he ushered in significant reforms in use-of-force policy and their implementation.

Readers at the San Diego Union-Tribune Festival of Books 2023 can learn more about exactly what Mike Geier has seen and done when “The Blue Journey: Memoirs of a Cop’s Cop” gets on display at the self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet’s exhibit. The event is scheduled to take place on August 19, 2023, at the University of San Diego, 5998 Alcala Park, San Diego, CA. The book is available on Amazon.
