“Triumph Through Trial effectively documents how the unknown and humble Kulhan family was inspired to complement the Holy Father’s efforts by, relatively speaking, coming out of nowhere, to also make a major contribution by their unprecedented, Holy Spirit-inspired, intense and highly organized efforts to research and expedite the medical verification of Father Ron Pytel’s miraculous cure, and providentially just in time for the first new millennium canonization of St. Faustina. - Bud Macfarlane

Preparations for the San Diego Union-Tribune Festival of Books are underway, and visitors will soon be presented with a vast selection of books that cover all sorts of interests. For those studying religion and the history of the Catholic Church, Joseph P. Kenney’s book certainly has a remarkable story to tell.

Titled “Triumph Through Trial: The Untold Story Behind the Canonization of Sister Maria Faustina Kowalska”, the book tells the less-known account of the Kulhan family in their role behind the canonization of St. Maria Faustina Kowalska.

Since her official canonization in 2000, St. Maria Faustina has become one of the most popular and often-cited mystics in the 21st century. In Kenney’s book, readers and scholars will learn just who were the people responsible for reporting the third miracle needed to complete her cause.

The Kulhans were a family with a proud Slovak-American heritage who just happened to be connected with Fr. Pytel, a priest who was blessed by a relic of then-Blessed Maria Faustina. Fr. Pytel had been struggling with a heart complication at the time. However, a doctor in the Kulhan family noticed something peculiar about the priest’s condition days later. They all then realized that they might have the final miracle right under their noses.

Eager readers visiting the San Diego Union-Tribune Festival of Books can learn more about the Kulhans’ painstaking efforts to verify St. Maria Faustina Kowalska’s miracle when “Triumph Through Trial: The Untold Story Behind the Canonization of Sister Maria Faustina Kowalska” goes on display at the self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet’s exhibit. The book event will occur on August 19, 2023, at the University of San Diego, 5998 Alcala Park, San Diego, CA. Get a copy of Joseph P. Kenney’s book on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.
