Carla Atkinson’s Children’s Book “Mama Bear” Will Be Displayed at the San Diego Union-Tribune Festival of Books 2023

Carla Atkinson’s children’s book “Mama Bear” will be exhibited by self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet at the 2023 San Diego Union-Tribune Festival of Books. The book festival will occur at the University of San Diego, 5998 Alcala Park, San Diego, CA, on August 19, 2023.

The San Diego Union-Tribune Festival of Books is an annual literary fest perfect for book lovers. Presented by the University of San Diego, the book event features workshops, activities, live entertainment, photo booths, author panel discussions, exhibits, and more. Admission to the Festival of Books is free.

“Mama Bear” encourages parents and children to read and talk about a family of bears. The story follows a mother bear taking note of how the other animals care for their young. The mother bear plans to use the notes and their lessons in taking care of her cubs.

The story gives parents a chance to talk about their parenting styles and teach the children that parenting is a choice, and parents choose what they believe will bring happiness and safety to their family.

“Mama Bear” is meant to be read aloud, which allows a stronger bond between the child and the parent. It also stimulates the learning process of a child as vocabulary and reading skills are practiced along with bonding.

The children’s book will be displayed by ReadersMagnet at their exhibit at the San Diego Union-Tribune Festival of Books 2023. Author’s Biography
Carla Atkinson has forty-five years of experience working with seriously emotionally disturbed children in a foster child setting. She and her husband, Jim, of sixty-one years, have raised two birth, three adopted, and over two hundred foster children. They operated six group homes, a foster family agency, and a special education school with ninety to one hundred employees.

Because the Atkinson’s raised the children in a family setting many stayed with the family and they now have over one hundred grandchildren and soon twenty-five great-grandchildren.

Carla has a BA degree in Psychology and is highly trained in William Glassers Choice Theory. She trained all agency staff, foster parents, natural parents, children, as well as community members in Choice Theory.

Carla decided to turn her many experiences and stories into children’s books.
