Phillip Thompson’s Colorful Leap into Fantasy Soon to Exhibit at the Printers Row Lit Fest 2023

The Printers Row Lit Fest is the legacy of Chicago’s own historical publishing industry where weird and wonderful stories first saw print. It’s certainly a great opportunity for cartoonist-turned-fantasy-author Phillip Thompson. His recent book, “Imagination,” takes the idea of leaping into a book quite literally and comes with a message of how this might just be what’s needed for two people to help each other out. “Jason and Aaliyah have been whisked to a world where they come face to face with magic, danger and their own personal issues.”

In the city of Chicago, the famous Printers Row Park was the launch point of many weird and wonderful stories in fiction. And this year, that spirit remains very much alive in the form of the Printers Row Lit Fest.

It is for this reason that new fantasy authors like Phillip Thompson are taking the chance to showcase their work at the event. In his case, it’s a childhood-inspired novel simply titled “Imagination.”

The story follows Jason Carmichael, a budding writer often in search of inspiration. Jason has an active imagination and a passion for the fantasy genre. And together, they inspire his wish to be part of the stories he reads.

But one day, he finds a mysterious book incidentally titled “Imagination” and takes a liking to it. He then decides to show it to his best friend and secret love interest Aaliyah. The next thing they knew, they suddenly find themselves transported into the book and as the very characters they were just reading about!

As with many stories like it, it would seem the only way out was to finish the story and face the perils of the magical world within.

Thompson’s inspiration for the book draws heavily from his fondness for childhood cartoons (which also inspired him to be a cartoonist as well as a writer).

Readers visiting the Printers Row Lit Fest this year can find out how his story-within-a-story ends by checking out Phillip Thompson’s “Imagination” at the ReadersMagnet exhibit. The event will take place at Printers Row Park in South Loop, Chicago, Illinois, on September 9-10, 2023. The book is available on Amazon.
