Benay Nordby’s “The Full Ripened Grain: A Memoir of Healing and Hope” was exhibited at the 2023 Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, which was held at the University of Southern California last April 22-23, 2023.

“The Full Ripened Grain” follows Benay Nordby, a successful baby boomer, wife, and mother. She finds herself deeply depressed for no apparent reason. When her loving husband says, “I want my wife back,” she searches for herself in the pages of thirty years of personal journals. From them, she recollects painful and poignant issues she faced with her family during much of the twentieth century: Tourette syndrome, her mother’s fate as a victim of medical malpractice, her father’s secret life, and the death of a beloved sister. Ultimately, she reps the grains of truth, hope, and joy that God provides on this journey of faith.

Each chapter of the book is introduced in relevant Bible passages that echo Benay’s life experiences. These passages also symbolize that God has always been around despite the stormy journey. Benay accepted the difficult challenges and held on tight to her faith.

The author aims to inspire readers who are also struggling with their lives. Her recollections are shared with honesty, humor, and strength that helps the readers engage well with the memoir. Benay opens herself to give the readers an insight into how she coped with the challenges.
