Shereema Dumas’ Personal Life Poetry Delights Readers at the L.A. Times Festival of Books 2023
Shereema Dumas has spent a colorful and adventurous life. And in the little moments between, she expresses her thoughts through her gift of poetry. She decided to compile all the ones she had written and publish them in a touching book Poetry for the Spirit. The book had just been exhibited during the 2023 Los Angeles Times Festival of Books.

The recently-concluded L.A. Times Festival of Books exhibited plenty of new poetry collections that painted vivid, colorful reflections of their authors’ lives. Dumas had graduated with a major in elementary education, and it was in education that she spent the most time in her career. However, that didn’t stop her from regularly penning verses, rhymes, and sonnets about what she witnessed day in and out. Last year, she decided to put it all together under the title “Poetry for the Spirit.”
The collection is arranged in alphabetical order, but there are also dates that can help readers put a chronological order to the events each poem alludes to. Visitors to the L.A. From the celebration of new family members to the excitement of starting a new job, “Poetry for the Spirit” commemorates the highs and lows of Dumas’ life.
