The annual San Diego Union-Tribune Festival of Books is an exciting opportunity to celebrate new writers and longtime authors. “I’ve read all of Dennis’ books...each one builds on his personal writing growth, great story telling skill, authentic geographic location descriptions, and he puts his heart into each one...your interest is kept until the end! The Siren’s Refrain moves one to think about aging, illness, never-lost love, and an ending left up to where the reader needs to go...” – Marvin J. Godner

The San Diego Union-Tribune hosts its Festival of Books every year, inviting publishers to showcase new works. Whether it’s the first ever novels published by aspiring creators or a new book by longtime authors, visitors will find plenty to check out among the exhibits.

Dennis Jung is one of the more experienced writers who has already published nine novels while also being selected as a finalist in the New Mexico-Arizona Book Awards. One of his newest novels, “The Siren’s Refrain,” is already slated for an exhibit at the Festival.

Jung’s writing is often praised for its highly visual and scenic imagery. At the same time, however, he holds a BA in Anthropology, and his knowledge allows his writing to touch heavily on the human experience. The results are novels that take readers across various locales while interplaying with their characters’ complex dramas.

In “The Siren’s Refrain,” these characters are Leon Riser, a famous travel writer, and novelist confronted with the search for his estranged lover, the famed singer-songwriter Lou Ann Catskill. For over 20 years, the pair had an on-and-off affair that exposed each other to their ugliest weaknesses. Lou Ann had been diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, which was the source of many painful memories for Leon. And as the story progresses, the pair must finally address the regret, pain, and loss they had both felt while confronting the reality of their advancing years.

Visitors to the San Diego Union-Tribune Festival of Books can find out how this emotionally-intense story ends when displayed at the ReadersMagnet exhibit. The festival will be at Alcala Park on Augusts 19. The book is available online on Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

He began writing novel-length stories after resettling in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He has just completed his tenth novel in as many years. He still resides in Santa Fe and is working on his next book.
