James “Mr. Speaker” Sears was born in Louisville, Kentucky, and is a graduate of Louisville Male High School. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Western Kentucky University and a Master’s of Science degree from Central Michigan University.

James retired after 30 years of service in the U.S. Army, and he is a highly decorated combat leader with four combat tours. He is the CEO of Mr. Speaker Ink LLC, and he has authored two books and produced four poetry CDs. Mr. Speaker enjoys hosting spoken word events, traveling, coaching high school track, and mentoring others.
