Northampton company made Beyonce’s suit on SI cover

Bruce Waldman is president of Backflips, a sales and design company in Pen Argyl that got a call to help Tina Knowles design the swimwear for the Sports Illustrated photos. Waldman is also on the board of A&H Sportswear in Stockertown, which landed the manufacturing contract.


In his business, Waldman said, “It’s the achievement of a lifetime goal to be on the cover of Sports Illustrated with a bathing suit. It’s like getting the lead in a Broadway show.”


Waldman also received the gratitude of the “bootylicious” model. In the package Tuesday were four copies of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue autographed by Beyonce.


One copy was for Jenni Saylor, a Backflips designer who helped design the suits. Another was for the A&H staff for manufacturing them. The others were to auction at school fundraisers for the Moravian Academy and The Hillside School.


“She signed them ’Love Beyonce,’ and I just think that’s really sweet,” Waldman said. “What a nice giveback to society.”
