Esther Perel’s Chart-Topping Podcast, ‘Where Should We Begin?’, Returns with New Episodes and an Expanded Focus

Vox Media and Esther Perel announced the return of her chart-topping podcast, Where Should We Begin?, where real couples in search of insight bare the raw, intimate, and profound details of their stories. Back with new episodes starting today, the show will ramp up its frequency from seasonal to always-on and weekly, expanding its purview to cover a wide spectrum of modern relationships ranging from couples and friends to work colleagues and family members. The show will also feature shorter sessions with individuals as part of Where Should We Begin?’s recurring “Esther Calling” series. Additionally, Where Should We Begin? recently debuted a subscription product in partnership with Apple Podcasts, offering its audience special bonus content featuring behind-the-scenes and on-the-record conversations with luminaries from arts, entertainment, psychotherapy, and beyond.

“In the villages of the past, we could hear every fight and every frolick. The walls were thin and the streets were narrow. We knew what was going on in the lives of others – and they were involved in ours whether we liked it or not. We had little freedom, but a lot more certainty,” said Perel. “Modern day relationships have more privacy to the point that your close friends can divorce and you didn’t even see it coming. But our newfound freedom also comes with a cost. We are more alone, more isolated and more prone to fragmentation. It leaves us out of practice and out of touch with the messiness that is inherent to living in close proximity to other humans. And that is why I lowered the four walls of my office for this podcast – it’s a public health campaign for modern relationships.”

Perel is recognized as one of today’s most insightful and original voices on modern relationships. Fluent in nine languages, she helms a therapy practice in New York City (note that the voices featured in the podcast are from one-time sessions and not Perel’s ongoing patients). Perel also serves as an organizational consultant for Fortune 500 companies around the world.
