Rev. Michael H. Lavery’s Stirring Work of Historical Fiction Heads to Exhibits at Hong Kong Book Fair 2023
The Hong Kong Book Fair 2023 will be showcasing dozens of newly published novels across many genres. And for Rev. Michael H. Lavery, the genre of historical fiction is great for both expressing himself and also sharing his faith. His book “Lucius: A Soldier’s Journey,” is set to exhibit at the fair, bringing its immersive story about conversion and the pursuit of truth in the midst of inner conflict.

The name of his book is “Lucius: A Soldier’s Journey.” Set in Rome, during the reign of Caesar, it follows the spiritual, philosophical, and moral struggles of its titular character.
On the one hand, Lucius is a man of nigh impeccable military pedigree. His family’s martial lineage dates back to the time of Romulus himself. His forebears marched with the greatest generals of their time.
Yet on the other hand, he saw the ugly price for Rome’s glory as the Empire pursues one war after another. This insight was due to his father, Antonicus, who lamented over the barbaric fruitlessness of imperial conquest despite his standing as a legatus.
But no sooner had Lucius reached the age of ten that his father perished in battle. His unconventional teachings remained a lasting legacy well into Lucius’ own later years. Now a high-ranking soldier himself, he remains conflicted about serving an empire that commands his obedience yet violates his conscience.
The story follows his pursuit of truth, particularly the truth of how he can resolve this inner turmoil. Visitors to the Hong Kong Book Fair 2023 will be able to see this story ends when it goes on display at the ReadersMagnet exhibit located at booths 1C-B23 and 1C-B25. The fair will be taking place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on July 19-25, 2023.
