Thomas Fitzhugh Sheets’ 3-Part Treatise Against the Flaws of Mainstream American Christianity Displayed at the L.A. Times Festival of Books 2023

Thomas Fitzhugh Sheets is a semi-retired businessman who, after a fateful discussion with a pastor and marine chaplain, decided to write a trilogy of books on America’s crisis of faith. For him, the gospel being preached by the mainline churches of America has long departed from the true Gospel of Christ. The compiled trilogy was recently exhibited at this year’s Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, spreading its message to all those willing to read with open hearts.

“This book is a fit tool for a new Reformation of bold Christian proclamation.” – W.Lee Eames Jr.

This year’s Los Angeles Times Festival of Books offered plenty of opportunities for authors of different world views to showcase their lifelong dedication to challenging mainstream opinions on religion, philosophy, and more.

This was certainly the goal of Thomas Fitzhugh Sheets, a semi-returned businessman who has recently authored a very extensive three-part book in response to a perceived crisis of faith in mainline American churches.

The book is titled “on that Day”: A Trilogy. Within its pages, Sheets focuses his critique mainly on the “Once saved, always saved” gospel that has proliferated across the churches of America.

Originally, he did not expect to wind up writing a trilogy based on this sole critique. But as he continued to explore further (including in-depth explorations of the Bible that he also cites frequently in the book), he realized that this problem bordered on the apocalyptic.

With his newfound convictions, Sheets is adamant that the notion of a “certain and eternal salvation” has given rise to a “putrid theology” that has now infiltrated churches and seminaries all across the United States.

His mission is to revive what he perceives as a forgotten Christian truth: Humanity’s relationship with God has been severed since the Fall. This relationship can only be repaired through faith in Jesus and joyful submission to the Father.

With the help of ReadersMagnet, a self-publishing and book marketing company, Sheets managed to give his book (along with his earnest and urgent message) an exhibit spotlight during the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books 2023.

Author Bio
Thomas Fitzhugh Sheets is a seventy-six-year-old semi-retired businessman who, while never attending college, has had a reasonably successful career. He is now living at Providence Farm in Bedford County, Virginia, and presently has a beef cattle operation, raising calves for the feeder market. During discussions with a friend, a retired pastor, and a marine chaplain who has decided that he is “done with the church,” Tom was challenged to write a book. His friend understood his ongoing frustration with both the message and direction of the established church and felt that many others shared this frustration.

Tom, who has a heart for the lost within the church, believes that the church has been hijacked by the instant-gratification crowd. Thus, he felt that he was challenged to address this issue, and as a result of this challenge, The Road to Restoration, The Death of the Promise, and the Resurrection of The Promised were developed.
