Ramon R. Ermita Shares How He Coped With the Ups and Downs of His Life in “Mirabilia”

Ramon R. Ermita shares how he coped with the ups and downs of his life through faith in God and determination in his biography, “Mirabilia: Events of Divine Causation.”

“Mirabilia” follows Ramon Ermita as he follows the love of his life to a foreign land as he powers through different dilemmas that hinder his goals.

Ramon was born in the Philippines at the height of World War II when the Japanese forces occupied the country. He was a sickly child suffering from a condition called anosmia, a problem with the sense of smell.

In addition to having respiratory problems, Ramon also struggled with school. He was bullied by other children for being smelly and had not been a good student academically. Despite these problems, the only one keeping him grounded was his mother. His mother only supported him until he coped and stood on his own again. At his new school, he managed to get good grades that would let him get accepted to a prestigious school. They had a celebration. His mother hoped he would become a lawyer someday. The next morning, his mother died from aneurysm.

His mother’s death caused him problems again. He flunked out of the prestigious school and became a gang member and an alcoholic. Because he still had a weak respiratory system, his alcoholism led him to the hospital when his lungs got filled with water the day he went home drunk in the rain. Fortunately, his brother and sister-in-law saved him and called the hospital.

This event led him back to becoming a better person. He graduated as president of his class with a degree in political science. His trip to the hospital also led him to get to know Lucille, a student nurse and the love of his life.

He pursued Lucille, but her parents did not like him. Lucille left for the United States for good. Ramon’s father advised him to seek God to get back on track, and his brother always told him to pray to ask for guidance. Ramon did as he was told and – then found his salvation. This led him to follow the love of his life to the United States. There, he later found Lucille. They both went through many challenges, but these led them to their marriage.

He found Lucille in the United States. Both of them might have found dilemmas, but these problems led them to their marriage and a stronger grip on faith in God.
