“A short easy read, comical, practical and full of little life-lesson gems from the biography of a wise yet simple man.” – Holley C. Hovermale

Martha I. Clyburn’s “Why Be Normal?: Life Lessons from Pine Knot” will be exhibited at the 2023 Hong Kong Book Fair. The event will take place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, 1 Expo Dr, Wan Chai, Hong Kong, this July 19-25, 2023.

“Why Be Normal?” revolves around the life of Bill “Pine Knot” Rector through the eyes and words of his significant other and author, Martha Clyburn. “Why be normal?” was the basic principle that Pine Knot lived his life. Although he was highly intelligent, he presented himself as a country bumpkin. He did this “so people would not bother him asking too many questions.” The country bumpkin persona allowed him to become the unique person people had known him for.

The book recounts the time when Clyburn first encountered “Pine Knot” up to the last days they spent together. People may not be immortal, but their memories are. Clyburn retells a story based on a “not so normal” principle.

“Why Be Normal?” also showcases “Pine Knot’s” writings and jokes that are from stories told in an outlandish way. The quotes from “Pine Knot’s” writings are all with a Southern accent highlighted by country slang and colloquialisms and a touch of Alabama dialect.

Martha I. Clyburn’s book will be displayed by self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet at the Hong Kong Book Fair 2023, at their exhibit at booths 1C-B23 and 1C-B25. ReadersMagnet supports the works of independent and self-published authors
