“With pictures of her Arctic North adventure, Juli-Ann introduces young readers to wonderful words used in science.”

The University of San Diego is set to present the San Diego Union-Tribune’s 7th Annual Festival of Books this year, inviting lovers of literature from around the city and the state. Over 70 authors are scheduled to appear, with even more slated to exhibit new publications to expand their readership. However, there will also be some books that simply want to improve literacy for a new generation of young learners.

This is certainly the goal of Juli-Ann Gasper, the author of an incredible scientific alphabet book “Way Up North Where the Kittiwakes Play: An A to Z Alphabet Book for Child and Adult.”

The book includes words from A-Z that are all tricky, but Gasper writes their explanations in a way that makes reading aloud very simple and engaging, even for very young children. From the idea of camouflage to what methane is, kids can get their first lesson on these tricky scientific words and get a wider appreciation for the natural world.

The book was heavily inspired by Gasper’s trip to the Arctic north, with the book even containing several photographs of her adventures there. As a retired professor, she has a great love for the wonders of these frozen ecosystems and all its creatures. She hopes that her book can introduce these wonders to many readers young and old.

Juli-Ann Gasper’s “Way Up North Where the Kittiwakes Play: An A to Z Alphabet Book for Child and Adult” will be displayed by the self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet at their exhibit for the San Diego Union-Tribune Festival of Books 2023. The event will kick off on August 19, 2023, at Alcala Park, San Diego, California, USA. The book is available on Alibris.
