Cecilia Domeyko’s Riveting Immigration Adventure Novel Exhibited at the L.A. Times Festival of Books 2023

Stories of immigration, representation, and the plight of Latin America’s poor were major topics during the L.A. Times Festival of Books. These were featured not only in the panels and programs but also in the new publications exhibited during the event. Among these is the well-received suspense and adventure novel “Sacrifice on the Border” by Cecilia Domeyko.

San Diego, CA – WEBWIRE

“Breathtaking, moving, astonishing, the definitive tale of the border for our times. At once gritty, realistic, lyrical, and poetic this tale of a young mother in search of her child is the archetype of all of us who search for meaning in our lives. At once a wondrous popular tale and unforgettable great literature.” Jack Jorgens PhD, Shakespeare Scholar.

Taking place at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books 2023 was a great opportunity for authors to share ideas on the subjects of diversity, immigration, and the challenges of people hailing from Latin America.

These include a great number of exhibited books on the subject, including the well-received novel “Sacrifice on the Border: A Mother Searches for Her Stolen Child” by Cecilia Domeyko. With the help of ReadersMagnet, a self-publishing and book marketing company, the novel was displayed at the book festival, and was a thrilling read for anyone who picked it up to take a look.

The story focuses on young mother Yoali who comes from a small southern town called Queseria. She has decided to go to El Norte to find a better life for her and her child, Elisito. As she crosses the river Grande, Elisito is kidnapped by Guayo, his biological father and a cartel trafficker. Guayo plans to sell the child on the black market.

Readers are then taken on a dramatic and thrilling chase south of the border as Yoali remains undaunted in her mission to rescue her son. Frank, a policeman who has fallen in love with Yoali has decided to help her get her child back. The two accompanied by the colorful Oso family, take off hot on the heels of Coyota and Gato, two traffickers who have fled with boy Along the way the group will encounter cartel corruption and violence and will also face their inner demons in order to find each other. The story comes to a grand finale when all characters in the story converge on the town of Queseria, where the community will fight to rescue Elisito from a terrible fate.

A good portion of the novel’s contents was heavily influenced by Domeyko’s own experience growing up as the daughter of diplomat parents. Born in Chile, she has traveled extensively to many parts of the world. She has served as a foreign correspondent writing for several Latin American newspapers and has produced documentary films on human rights as well as the plight of migrant families.

While her story is fictional, it is her hope that it serves as a thought-provoking piece that spurs more people to consider the welfare of real victims of human trafficking and forced migration.

“Sacrifice on the Border: A Mother Searches for Her Stolen Child” is available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble. For more information on Cecilia Domeyko’s work, visit her website at https://www.ceciliadomeyko.com/.
