“For generations, the Bezelbottoms have elevated the most ambitious, ruthless and determined characters in their clan to serve as their head… and then, there was Theo.”

Every year, the Frankfurter Buchmesse (Frankfurt Book Fair) brings together international publishers to network with authors who are eager to showcase creative stories and ideas.

This year, Stephen Lloyd Auslender, a sculptor, former teacher of mechanical design, and now published author, will showcase his book, “The Streamlined Locomotive,” before fairgoers.

“The Streamlined Locomotive” takes place just shortly before America’s participation in World War II. Its lead character (and first-person narrator) is an aspiring rake named Theo P. Bezelbottom.

The Bezelbottoms are notorious in the predominant steam engine industry as robber barons led by the most ambitious, determined, and ruthless patriarch of their clan. This head always goes by the name of Throckmorton.

In contrast to Uncle Throckmorton, however, is another figure of significance for the clan. His name is Uncle Aloysius, a name given to the most creative, unorthodox mad genius of the family. For generations, the Bezelbottom name had been attached to these two fundamentally opposed yet similar positions.

But for Theo, getting caught in between has been nothing short of exhausting. All he wishes is to live the indolent life of self-indulgence and the freedom to expend his family fortune on it till the end of his days.

Unfortunately, his days seemed to have been numbered as of late. Uncle Throckmorton has cast his demanding eye on the young man, just as zany Uncle Aloysius has rested his hopes for a streamlined locomotive on his shoulders. Should Theo fail, he’ll not only lose his position of privilege and wealth but also be conscripted to join America’s first companies shipping off for the war.

Visitors to Frankfurter Buchmesse (Frankfurt Book Fair) will get a chance to see if he makes it when the novel is put on display at the self-publishing and book marketing company ReadersMagnet’s exhibit. The event will take place at the Ludwig-Erhard-Anlage Park, Frankfurt, Germany, on October 18-22, 2023.
