NPR President and CEO John Lansing announced that Daphne Kwon will be NPR’s Chief Financial Officer. Kwon is an experienced finance executive with a strong track record of business development and transformation at media organizations such as Meredith Corporation, Oxygen Media and Disney/ABC. Her appointment as Chief Financial Officer begins June 26 and follows an extensive national search.

“My entire media career has drawn me to this opportunity at NPR. Journalism has never been more important,” said Kwon. “And the place that NPR and its Member stations occupy in the fabric of public broadcasting is unique and necessary. I am honored to be a part of this team and look forward to contributing to NPR’s growth and impact.”

“Daphne is an experienced media industry professional and has a very creative and strategic approach to financial leadership,” added NPR President and CEO John Lansing. “She is exactly the kind of leader we need to guide us at this time.”

Kwon brings more than two decades of experience, most recently at Flipside Crypto, a tech company providing analytics to cryptocurrency organizations. Before that she served as Chief Strategy Officer at the Meredith Corporation, a multiplatform media company that included brands such as PEOPLE, Better Homes & Gardens, and 17 broadcast television stations across the country. During her time as Chief Strategy Officer of Meredith Corporation, Kwon led Meredith’s strategic agenda, with a focus on growing the company’s digital activities. At Disney/ABC, Kwon led the launch of several digital TV networks. And as the first CFO at Oxygen Media, she was instrumental in leading the company’s successful growth. In her time as CFO of Goop, Kwon tripled revenue through the launch of ecommerce, digital sponsorship, and Goop-label beauty, publishing and apparel products.

As CFO, Kwon will be responsible for overseeing the organization’s financial operations, as well as providing effective leadership for the teams that manage NPR’s financial, administrative and facilities operations. Kwon is a graduate of Harvard Business School.

Russell Reynolds Associates assisted NPR with the search.
