This Encouraging Poetic Devotional by Pamela K.C. Hollrah-Asleson Was Exhibited at the L.A. Times Festival of Books 2023

Pamela Hollrah-Asleson is an RN who has experienced personal struggles and witnessed much suffering. For strength, she drew on her Christian faith and embraced the concept of Jesus sharing in the burden of suffering and grief, assuring her that she was never alone. This inspired her to use poetry as her word craft to express the emotions and publish her poems as a series of devotionals exploring God touching our humanity. She was even able to get an exhibit spot for her book at the LATFOB 2023.

The 2023 L.A. Times Festival of Books was an exciting opportunity for many recently published poets to share their work. For many poets, to share their verse is to share much of their life and heart, revealing how they view the world.

The journey of poet Pamela K.C. Hollrah-Asleson has been journaled through her poetry. Reflecting on her struggles with depression, love, and loss, her career as an RN, she has been privileged to work with and help others suffering. Our Soldiers are close to her heart, having been raised in a career military family, being a veteran’s mother and currently supporting our troops. Pam retired from a Federal prison hospital and volunteers for jails and community groups.

Through it all, she has a strong foundation in her Christian faith. She shares the details of her faith journey through poetry in her “Poet’s Heart, God’s Gift” books, specifically book 1 in this series: “Yoked With Christ.” With the help of ReadersMagnet, a book marketing and self-publishing company, she even gained an exhibit spot for this book during the L.A. Times Festival of Books.

The book has already earned plenty of praise from fellow members of her church and other Christian readers. For instance, local Reverend Scott Meyer of Trinity and Our Savior’s Lutheran Parish wrote, “It’s a refreshingly simple, surprisingly practical, step-by-step aid in reflecting on the author’s poem by the same name, but also on the reader’s personal understanding of his/her faith in Christ.”

Christian and active Toastmaster Brian Hinton, DTM also wrote, “Pam Hollrah-Asleson has created a very unique and heartfelt poem that intrigued my interest right away. The devotional is thought-provoking. I enjoyed the exercises throughout. I recommend ’Yoked With Christ’ to any Christian. It helped me organize my own thoughts in my current struggle.”

The book was further received positively by readers practicing psychology. According to Stanley R. Today, Hollrah-Asleson continues to use her talent with words to inspire others, be it through poetry as well as her work as a speaker and Toastmaster. She provides keynotes and workshop weekends based on her Poet’s Heart God’s Gift poetry, Victim2Victor process, and Journaling the Journey themes.

Pam is an RN with 40+ years of experience.

As a poet she has journaled her journey through life. An active Toastmaster she speaks on a regular basis in her club, her community and at speaking events. Her passion is Life Safety and she uses this as a platform for speaking.

Being a military brat, the mother of a veteran, and having retired from a federal prison hospital makes her knowledge and experiences especially poignant for service members and their families. She is an appointed support to her local military and is an adjunct to her local beyond the Yellow Ribbon.

Pam’s belief in and personal relationship with God is her foundation. Her life verse is Hebrews 13:5; she holds close to Hebrews 13:5-8 and Jeremiah 29:11–13. Her wish is that people may know him, too.
